The San Diego Zoo
One of the most famous and world renowned tourist attractions in
Southern California is the eco friendly San Diego Zoo. A lot of
people outside of California, though are not informed of an even
exciting wildlife experience which is simply a stone's throw away
from the Zoo, in the northern portion of San Diego County, the famous
San Diego Wild Animal Park. Similar to the San Diego Zoo, the Wild
Animal Park is maintained by the Zoological Society of San Diego
which is considered to be a non-profit organization aggressively
promoting the conservation and education of endangered animals and
other species and their habitats.
I have been to the Park a number of times while growing up in Southern
California, however my last visit was extraordinary special since
it was with my five year old daughter who has never been to the
beautiful place. It was an exhilarating experience that churn out
a lot of cool pictures and a great time that I will never soon forget.
The San Diego Wild Animal Park opened in the year 1972, and a lot
of the attractions that were there at the opening can still be found
at the moment. The Park is not being built similar to a traditional
zoo since most of the exhibits are in an open area on vast acres
of land. This permits the Animal Park to maintain herds of varied
species that deal with each other in a surrounding that look a lot
similar to their natural habitat. With this, the animals exhibit
a lot of their natural behaviors, giving out Park visitors with
a good understanding of how they live.
The Wild Animal Park's very famous attraction is the Wgasa Bush
Line Railway which strolls around visitors on a 3 mile, 40 minute
journey through most of the Park's main locations and then proceeding
into the San Pasqual Valley. The valley is split into various areas,
each representing various regions such as North Africa, South Africa,
the Asian Plains, and the Mongolian Steppe.
The tour also treats guests a live narration by the tram driver
which is successful in educating the riders about each species on
exhibit. For example, few people only knew that a herd of rhinos
is named as a crash. This visual treat is perfect for older kids
and adults alike, but younger children may become a bit restless
because of the ride's length of time.
